Meaning of the Octofoil
The OCTOFOIL is a device that dates back to the 15th Century when it was customary for each son to have an individual mark of distinction. Under the rules of heraldry there are eight foils or positions. Heraldic rules gave the OCTOFOIL to the ninth son, a device symbolic of his being surrounded by eight brothers.
The 9th Infantry Division insignia is a red and blue octofoil; a design of eight petals with a white center. Red and blue designate colors of an infantry division headquarters flag; white is for the numbers used in divisional flags. The circular background is olive drab.
The subdued variant consists of olive drab and black for less visibility to be worn on field uniforms.

| SBC Global - E-mail Problems |
We are currently having problems regarding sending e-mail to SBC Global accounts. We are working on resolving this problem. Until it is resolved registrations using sbcglobal.net (and probably most AT&T companies) will not be able to receive the activation links.
In light of this, we will be keeping an eye open for registrations coming into the site more actively for the time being. Once we see them, we'll be manually be activating them and setting up the OLP permissions based on our present membership list.

| S/Sgt. Charles |
UncleChuck writes "Seeking information on my Uncle Chuck. He was from Somerville Ma. and the youngest of 8 kids. He joined in February, 1941, was with HDQ/HDQ battery & in all the actions from Torch. He DOW on the day of the Remagen breakout; March 25, 1945 when his jeep drove over a landmine. As far as I can tell; this happened somewhere within 4 miles of the Eastern Bridgehead while the division was attached to First Army, III Corps. Any stories or memories about him from any of his time in the 9th would be greatly appreciated.
Jim Consatntine, Jr.
NOTE: You can contact Jim through the website or by his e-mail address, if you have any trouble doing so, please let me know. Thanks!
