    Instructions - NEW!

  • Meaning of the Octofoil

The OCTOFOIL is a device that dates back to the 15th Century when it was customary for each son to have an individual mark of distinction. Under the rules of heraldry there are eight foils or positions. Heraldic rules gave the OCTOFOIL to the ninth son, a device symbolic of his being surrounded by eight brothers.

The 9th Infantry Division insignia is a red and blue octofoil; a design of eight petals with a white center. Red and blue designate colors of an infantry division headquarters flag; white is for the numbers used in divisional flags. The circular background is olive drab.

The subdued variant consists of olive drab and black for less visibility to be worn on field uniforms.

    Remagen Plaque Update
NewsThis is a little delayed due to the holidays and high workload on my part but here is an update on the Remagen Plaque from Terry Barnhart.

The American Battle Monument Commission last week approved our plaque design. We are finalizing the design with a manufacturer for completion by mid January so we can ship to Germany for mounting at Friedensmuseum Bruecke von Remagen in time for 65th anniversary on March 8, 2010.

A postcard invitation is being sent out to all Association members inviting them to attend the Bronze Plaque Dedication Ceremony on the date at the location listed above. More details will be provided in the January newsletters. Additionally, you can send questions or RSVP to Terry Barnhart at trbrnhrt@ix.netcom.com or via phone at 303-466-9364.

    Invitation can be viewed [HERE]

    Newsletter Access Tutorial Added
InformationThe video tutorial for accessing the newsletter has been posted. It is the complimentary video to the registration tutorial video.

While this new video is certainly not all inclusive, I do hope that it serves to help some people out by providing a visual means to watch and listen to, as well as read, the instructions on how to access the Association newsletters.

Please note: this new tutorial is only applicable to members of the 9th Infantry Division Association and auxiliaries, newsletters put out by the organization are not open to the public at this time.

If anyone has any trouble with this new video or especially with getting a newsletter, please e-mail me for assistance.

Applebee's Shows Support by Meal Offer - Veterans Day 2009
AnnouncementsIt is official, Applebee's is showing its support to veterans by offering veterans a meal on-the-house Novermber 11th, 2009. I've included the link below for details.

In summary: simply show up and provide proof, an active duty or retired ID, a veterans organization membership card, a picture of you in uniform or even wearing your uniform

    Here's the link: http://applebees.com/vetsDay/default.aspx

In my opinion this is absolutely wonderful of them to do. I guess they did this last year and the response was so overwhelmingly positive that they decided to do it again this year. I hope some of you can take advantage of this wonderful offer they've provided. Not that my voice means much, but even so, I will certainly be thanking Applebee's for providing such a wonderful opportunity for veterans and showing their support.
